Peter Gethers, dedicated dog lover, is surprised one day by a gift from his girlfriend: a small, gray ball of fur that immediately wins his heart and quickly sets about taking over his life. He starts by staking out his territory on the bed, where Gethers is forced to endure uncomfortable positions rather than wake the sleeping cat. Soon Norton becomes an inveterate traveller: from Fire Island - where he's introduced to the island's summer social scene - to Paris, via the Concorde - where the hotel staff tends to his every whim. Along the way, Norton begins to dictate Gethers' love life, becomes friends with Roman Polanski and makes a less-than-favorable first impression on Harrison Ford!
