Ready or Not is the sequel to the novel All-American Girl. Both were written by Meg Cabot, who is also the author of The Princess Diaries. The book takes place about a year after All-American Girl.
Plot summary
Samantha Madison, still teen ambassador to the United Nations, as well as dating the President's son, David. Sam is worried David wants to take their relationship to the next level.
She also begins taking life drawing which she doesn't realize is drawing pictures of naked people. She is still a semi-celebrity for saving the President's life. The President (only referred to as Mr. President) recently announced his "Return to Family" campaign. It includes plans to limit access to abortion and birth control. Samantha is faced with a huge dilemma when it appears that she not only condemns the "Return to Family" policy on an MTV special but also implies that she has had sex with David, although she hasn't. During this time, Samantha’s sister Lucy is also conflicted because she has fallen in love with her SAT tutor, Harold, but he does not appear to admire her back. David invites Sam to Camp David for Thanksgiving weekend. Sam sees this as further proof that David wants to go the next level. In Camp David, Sam surprises David by telling him her suspicions about him wanting to have sex. He had not meant for them to, but they end up doing it together anyway. They use the foam and condoms Lucy gave Sam.
